White bicycles have started to appear on London streets. The so-called "Ghost Bikes" are locked close to the place where a cyclist suffered a fatal accident. The initiative started in New York and gradually spread to the rest of the world. The "ghost bike" is put in place by family members or close friends of the victim. It functions as a memorial.
As a keen cyclist, I wanted to document these in the memory of all the cyclists killed in recent years. Every year more people get on their bicycles as alternative modes of transport are needed to curb global warming. Meanwhile cars and lorries pollute and kill.
Some of the white bicycles in these photographs have since been partly dismantled by petty thieves, shame on them.
